Martin and Richson earn Centennial Conference honors | Sports

WRESTLING: Senior Ray Martin was named Centennial Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time in his career after a strong performance at the Wildcat Invitational last Saturday.

Martin had three wins en route to second place at 174 in the event hosted by Penn College. He recorded a 16-0 technical drop in his first game and managed a pair of bowling in the first period to reach the final. Martin came close to winning his first individual title of the season, losing 2-0.

The senior grappler is 10-3 overall with five pins and has placed in each of the top three tournaments this season. He finished sixth at the Messiah University Invitational on November 6 and fourth at the Washington & Jefferson College Invitational on November 13. Martin’s first nod as CC Wrestler of the Week came during his second campaign.

Gettysburg is back in action with the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah on December 3-4.

Senior Christina Richson was named the Centennial Women’s Basketball Conference Player of the Week after leading Gettysburg College to a surprise victory over No.5 Messiah University last week.

Richson helped the Bullets take out the Falcons, ranked fifth 65-55, with a career-high 20 points. She finished three points off the program record hitting six from beyond the arc and topped her previous personal score of five. The senior keeper scored eight points in the third quarter when Gettysburg beat Messiah 19-10. She finished 7 of 16 overall and 6 of 11 with three points, while adding three rebounds and three steals.

The victory over Messiah marked Gettysburg’s biggest victory over a ranked opponent since a 73-65 decision over No.4 Scranton in the 1995 NCAA Division III playoff first round.

Richson leads a well-rounded formation with 11.7 points per game this season. She connected on 47.4% of her three points.

Gettysburg College concluded a return to competition this fall with 94 student-athletes named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. In addition, seven student-athletes landed places on the Centennial Academic Team.

To be nominated for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or above and have a GPA of 3.40 or above. Members of the Centennial Academic Team made both the Academic Honor Roll and the team at all conferences in their respective sports.

Women’s soccer led the way with five centennial academic caps for seniors Emma Bedell, Kelly Gaudian, Erika Muskus and Molly O’Shea and junior Grace Slevin. All five were named to Team All Conferences, with Muskus earning first team status, O’Shea and Gaudian being named second team, and Bedell and Slevin earning honorable mentions. Gaudian and O’Shea were named Academic All-Centennial for the second time in their careers, while the three remaining players were all honored for the first time.

Senior defensive end Alex Raimondo has achieved Academic Centenary status for the second time in his career. He was an all-conference first-team selection and tied for third in the conference in tackles for a loss with 18 for the Bullets football team this fall.

Senior forward Lauren Beccaria of the field hockey team completed the Centennial Academic Selections. Beccaria earned her first academic centennial nod after landing an all-conference second-team selection.

Football dominated all of Gettysburg’s fall sports with 28 Academic Honor Roll caps, while women’s football had 23 winners.
